Principal Civil & Structural Engineer, Preston, UK (Hybrid works arrangement available).
Your Day-to-Day:
Act as the project’s single point of authority and accountability for the CS&A engineering discipline.
Dependent on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the clients responsible engineering team.
Responsible for the development of key CS&A design deliverables, checking and approval of calculations, ensuring that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations, and customer-specific standards.
Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted, and professionally presented.
Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages.
Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts.
Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM.
Present CS&A engineering designs to clients and key stakeholders who may be discipline experts or non-discipline related.
Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs.
Production and checking of safety-related documents such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation / Justifications Report.
Develop estimates, define deliverables, clarify scope/exclusions, and develop programme logic at bid/tender stages.
Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skill sets and enhance the company’s capabilities.
Develop and manage/maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organizations.
Who You Are: As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Structural Engineering.
Chartered Member of the ICE.
Must be legally eligible to work in the UK.
Minimum 8+ years’ experience in industry, at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level. Ideally, 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector.
Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes, and directives and how they should be applied. Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of CS&A design. Strong knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products/plant and equipment.
Broad experience of civil construction and construction management.
Strong knowledge of designing for seismic, blast, and impact load effects.
