Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining PfP's data platform we extract data from source, transform it into a usable format, load it into consumer models and marts and build and manage the infrastructure to do all this work. The Principal Data Platform Engineer is a leading role in our Cloud Services Team. Responsible for leading and managing the operation and optimisation of our data platform. Working closely with Architects, Data Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Scientists, Project Managers and Heads of Departments. The primary focus will be on data set and table management, deployment and configuration of the data platforms components and designing and implementing monitoring and optimisation strategies to enhance platform performance. Additionally, the Principal Data Platform Engineer will take an active role in the design and roll out of access & security controls, GDPR compliance, governance and change management as well as supporting day to day operations for Data Engineering. The role will lead DevOps / DataOps activities within the Data Engineering function and be the link between Data Engineering and the Cloud Infrastructure and Network teams. You are an experienced and talented data platform engineer with a proven track record and hands on experience with Google Cloud Platform. You will confidently approach problems in a logical manner. You are proactive and organised, someone who looks for problems before they become real issues by making operational status and performance visible. You will also take a protective stance to ensure that risks to the platforms are minimised in line with business appetite. Keen to learn new tech. 3+ years Data Platform Engineer or similar role with strong track record. Expertise in data platform architecture, configuration, and optimisation with a focus on MPP databases like Google BigQuery. Strong proficiency in Data Engineering best practices including dataset and table management, data pipelines, access & security, GDPR compliance, monitoring, and alerting. Experienced with DevOps and Agile. Experience of working with Terraform, CI/CD principles. Good understanding of Google's Big Query platform. Benefits
