This new Principal Ecologist role could be the perfect role for you. Our client is a major environmental consultancy firm that provides high-quality advice to a diverse range of clients across multiple sectors including energy, transport & infrastructure, utilities, and water. They are looking to bring in an experienced ecologist to lead their Midlands and Northwest England Ecology teams. You’ll be working with a highly qualified management team to support, grow, and develop the ecology department, aiming to have between 5 and 15 new members in the next 3 years. You’ll have the opportunity to work with regulators, governments, non-governmental bodies, and private clients, exposing you to a vast array of working areas, allowing you to expand your existing skillset. Responsibilities: Working closely with other Principals as well as the Associate and Division Directors to assist with the acquisition of new work to support the expansion of the business. Developing and implementing business strategies relating to the terrestrial ecology team. Undertaking a mentoring role to lead your team of both consultants and senior consultants, supporting their continued professional development and enabling them to produce high-quality reports in a timely manner. Reviewing and signing off on reports produced by your team, providing constructive feedback and implementing mentoring/coaching time when required. Maintaining client relations, acting as a professional point of contact, developing and maintaining new and existing relationships with clients and stakeholders. Supporting all aspects of tender preparation, including fee proposals, determining budgets, programmes, and scope for both internal and external organisations. Acting as a representative of the company, attending relevant business development events such as networking events and conferences. Requirements: The essential requirements for this Principal Ecologist role are: Experience across a range of projects with exposure to a variety of environmental and ecological challenges that were overcome. Strong knowledge of UK and EU legislation regarding ecological and environmental issues and of EcIAs and planning applications. Experience with developing junior team members and winning new business for a company. Experience with undertaking a range of surveys and reports; you may be required on occasion to lead in areas including protected species surveys. Desirable traits that will bolster your application include: Possession of one or more protected species license. FISC level 4 Certification. Member or Chartered Member of CIEEM or other relevant professional bodies. Experience leading a team.
