Principal EC&I Engineer, in Preston, Lancashire, UK . Your Day-to-Day: Act as the project’s single point of authority and accountability for the EC&I engineering discipline. Dependent on project scope, lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the clients responsible engineering team. Responsible for the development of key design deliverables such as Block Cable Diagrams, Schematics, Cable Schedules and General Arrangements. Check and approve cable calculations by hand or in Amtech and lighting calculations in Dialux/Relux. Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards. Ensure that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel. Produce documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented. Prepare and review quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages. Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget. Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts. Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM. Present EC&I engineering designs to clients and key stakeholders who may be discipline experts or non-discipline related. Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs. Produce and check safety related documents such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation / Justifications Report. Develop estimates, define deliverables, clarify scope/exclusions and develop programme logic at bid / tender stages. Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skill sets and enhance the company’s capabilities. Develop and manage/maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organisations. Who You Are: At least 8+ years’ experience in the industry, of which at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level. Ideally 5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector preferred. Must be legally eligible to work in the UK. Bachelor’s degree or higher. Chartered Member of the IET. Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied. Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques of EC&I design. Strong knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products / plant and equipment. Experience of design in accordance with the IET 18th edition (BS7671). Qualities: Ability to undertake technical tasks and also disclose their technical limitations. Willingness to mentor more junior engineers and designers. Ability to work well with all levels of management, executive leadership and support staff. Work effectively in a team. Ability to make independent decisions. A professional attitude and a ‘can do’ approach to problem solving. Ability to identify discipline-related design changes and assess their commercial impacts. Reinforces nuclear professionalism, and in particular Health, Safety and Environment Standards. Actively promotes a positive delivery focused culture where exceeding Client expectations is the norm.
