Principal Electrical Engineer - Building Services - London
Our client is an internationally renowned, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy with offices across the UK, Ireland, and Australia. Their Building Services team delivers cutting-edge engineering solutions for a diverse range of projects, pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability.
They are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to join their growing team in London. As a senior member of our Building Services division, you will lead the electrical engineering design on complex, high-profile projects across a variety of sectors, including commercial, healthcare, residential, and retail developments. You will be responsible for driving the successful delivery of electrical engineering services, overseeing project lifecycles from concept through to completion, and interfacing directly with clients at all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, specification, and coordination of electrical building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and building management systems (BMS).
- Develop detailed electrical designs using advanced tools such as REVIT MEP and MagiCAD, ensuring seamless integration with other building services disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with British Standards (BS7671), CIBSE guidelines, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Undertake electrical load calculations, cable sizing, and lighting design using industry-standard software.
- Manage all aspects of project delivery, including feasibility studies, detailed design, tender documentation, and contract administration.
- Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and designers, offering mentorship and promoting knowledge sharing across the team.
- Prepare and present technical reports, specifications, and engineering proposals to clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure coordinated and integrated building services designs.
- Monitor and review installation and commissioning activities on-site, conducting site inspections and providing technical guidance during the construction phase.
Skills & Experience:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards achieving this.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in electrical building services engineering, with a track record of delivering complex projects across multiple sectors.
- Proficient in the use of 3D design software such as REVIT, with exposure to MagiCAD or similar tools being highly desirable.
- Thorough understanding of building services electrical design standards.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee project lifecycles, manage budgets, and deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Proven experience in client liaison, with the ability to represent the company at senior levels and foster long-term client relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing high-quality technical reports, design documentation, and presentations.
- Experience in team leadership, with the ability to manage and mentor junior engineers and promote a collaborative working environment.
