Principal Engineer/Chief Engineer

to strengthen our Bridges and Civils team within our Transportation Practice, based in Birmingham. As a key leader, you’ll contribute to high-profile projects in the Midlands and beyond, encompassing transportation, local authority work, and civil engineering structures throughout the UK and internationally. Your technical and leadership skills will drive the delivery of diverse civil and structural design packages, supporting projects for new-build highways, rail schemes, asset management, and more. You’ll be instrumental in managing design packages, overseeing project resourcing, and ensuring financial control to deliver successful projects aligned with AtkinsRéalis' quality standards. Your Purpose: Proven expertise in the design, maintenance, and management of civil or structural projects, with a track record of innovation in highway or rail structures. Hands-on experience in bridge design, maintenance, assessment, or railway civil engineering. Strong analytical skills to develop effective engineering solutions, with a strategic mindset to select the best options. Expertise in producing high-quality design documentation, including sketches, drawings, reports, and specifications. Skill in conducting technical reviews and supporting project bids and tenders. In-depth knowledge of relevant design standards (e.g., DMRB, MCHW, Eurocodes, Network Rail Standards). Strong project management skills, with commercial acumen, financial oversight, and stakeholder management abilities. BEng / MEng or MSc degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent). Chartered status and membership in ICE or IStructE.
