Description

We have an opportunity for a Principal Engineer (Jm2) - Engineering & Surveying. To carry out a Senior role in a team engaged in designing and implementing schemes to achieve maximum highway efficiency, effectiveness and safety. To provide professional advice on traffic engineering issues.

Responsibilities

To manage, design and implement schemes to achieve maximum highway efficiency, effectiveness and safety. Qualification – Essential

GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. Degree in Civil Engineering or similar relevant technical equivalent or experience. Advanced – Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Social Media. Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Requirements - Criteria-to be Tested at Shortlisting

Experience working within Highways in a local authority or similar organisation. Successful delivery of highway structure road maintenance schemes, from pre-design to construction and sign-off. Design, supervision & implementation with procurement elements. Overseeing road markings, signing, etc. Experience in carrying out Principal and General inspections. Experience in commissioning and managing contracts. Experience in project management. Experience in building successful relationships with contractors and developers. Experience in presenting highway information to various audiences. Experience working directly with elected members. Knowledge and understanding of highway, traffic and planning law. Detailed specialist knowledge about the relevant legislation, technical specifications, standards and codes of practice/procedures and ongoing developments in highway structure construction, maintenance & improvement. Some knowledge of the procurement rules. Ability to monitor and manage budgets. Ability to produce clear and concise committee papers/reports. Good oral, written and presentation skills and the ability to negotiate, persuade & influence. Managing relationships with a range of stakeholders. Competent in the use of specialist technical software. Use of project management software. Take daily site visits for 1-3 weeks at a time. Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
