Principal Highways Engineer
Carrington West is delighted to be working with a leading organisation to find an experienced and motivated Principal Highways Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead on exciting and varied projects that make a real difference to communities.
The Role As a Principal Highways Engineer, you'll be responsible for overseeing the design, supervision, procurement, and implementation of a range of highways and traffic schemes. You'll take ownership of projects from start to finish, ensuring they're delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards. You'll work on projects such as: 20mph schemes Highway improvements and traffic management Parking schemes (car parking and residential) Cycleway schemes Pedestrian crossings
What You'll Be Doing
Leading the design and delivery of schemes, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidelines. Supervising works on-site, including road markings, signage, and other infrastructure improvements. Managing procurement processes to support successful project delivery. Running consultation meetings with stakeholders, including residents, contractors, and other partners. Providing detailed and accurate designs using AutoCAD. Regularly visiting sites to oversee works and liaise with contractors.
What We're Looking For
Strong experience in highway engineering, with a proven track record of delivering similar projects. Excellent knowledge of design standards and an ability to ensure compliance in all work. Proficiency in AutoCAD. Great communication skills, with the confidence to manage stakeholders and work collaboratively within a team. A flexible approach, with the ability to attend office-based team days (Wednesdays) and visit sites regularly.
