We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Lawyer - Governance & Regulatory to join our Legal, Governance & Compliance Services. The Legal Governance & Regulatory Team is a busy dynamic team supporting across all areas of the authority. Taking a lead on new governance implications related to the English Devolution White Paper and supporting on all litigation matters and Police and Crime functions. The Team is seeking a Principal Lawyer with a strong skillset and knowledge base to oversee the Team’s work and undertake their own caseload. The Role: Take the strategic lead on all regulatory law, compliance, litigation and employment law matters and on the development and maintenance of a robust and effective governance framework for the Authority (including Mayoral functions) and the Local Enterprise Partnership effectively anticipating and responding to opportunities and change. Support the Service Lead in their role, including in respect of responsibilities around decision making, elections and regulatory compliance, and providing legal advice in the fields of public and regulatory law, including high value or high profile litigation. Shape, lead and manage the governance and regulatory legal function, leading the team to provide the Authority with a proactive, professional, comprehensive legal service. About You: You will have the following key skills, attributes, education and experience: Excellent track record of providing pro-active, customer focused and authoritative legal advice and support. Knowledge and experience of advising on at least two of the following areas: public administrative law, health and safety, police and crime commissioner functions, litigation, freedom of information, data protection, equalities. Substantial and extensive legal and practical knowledge and experience relating to local government law and practice as combined authorities. Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practicing certificate or full CILEX (fellowship) qualification. Our offer: 28 days Annual Leave (increasing upon years of service) plus Bank Holidays.
