We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced disputes lawyer to join BHP’s Legal team as a Principal Lawyer (Managing Counsel) in our London office. This is a unique opportunity to utilize your skills and experience with a leading global resources company. This role will provide key advice and support in relation to key strategic disputes in the United Kingdom and Europe, including group action claims in the United Kingdom and The Netherlands. Expected to deliver independent, strategic advice across a range of complex and significant matters for the company, the successful candidate will be required to balance commercial, reputational, and operational factors and provide critical support in managing large disputes and contentious matters. Reporting to the Manager Legal, Disputes, your accountabilities include: Working collaboratively with the Manager Legal, Disputes to manage complex disputes across different jurisdictions with varied stakeholders. Managing and collaborating closely with external counsel in the UK and in other global jurisdictions where BHP has operations to prepare and execute BHP’s strategy. Providing disputes-related input into key company decision-making processes. Monitoring and advising on external developments to allow the company to proactively manage its disputes-related risks and opportunities. Advising and engaging with internal stakeholders responsible for BHP’s corporate affairs, investor relations and group governance among other functions. About You
As a legal professional, you will have strong technical experience with complex litigation in the United Kingdom and internationally. You will be a polished communicator (verbally and written) with strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. It is desirable for you to have experience working across the resources industry and/or Latin America experience. You are willing to undertake occasional business travel, as required.
