Principal Pharmacist - Mental Health & Learning Disabilities

within Gloucestershire, based under GHFT at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. You will provide leadership and direction for the Specialist Mental Health service and drive a committed team forward in providing clinical pharmacy and supply services to the MH&LD patients across Gloucestershire. In addition to having excellent communication skills, showing your initiative and the ability to work alone or as part of a team is essential. The applicant will be expected to contribute towards advancing the presence and reach of pharmacy within the Trust, and push our agenda of innovation and extending the boundaries of the profession where possible. Main duties of the job

Service lead and Principal Pharmacist for the Mental Health pharmacy service provided under an SLA from GHFT to GHC, providing leadership and management for all aspects of the service. Provide leadership and hold responsibility for standards of pharmacy practice, quality assurance, risk management and clinical governance in relation to medicines management and optimising the safe effective use of medication across GHC MH&LD. Lead and manage a team of approximately 18 staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and assistant technical officers delivering a clinical and operational service. Support the further development of the established service. Support the GHC medicines safety officer (MSO) where required. Support corporate and operational management of the GHC MH&LD medicines budget and expenditure. Responsible for ensuring the audits required within the SLA are undertaken. Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in the SLA. Support further development of any electronic pharmacy or electronic prescribing systems. Support the Controlled Drug Accountable Officers (CDAOs) for the Trusts. About us

Qualifications

MPharm degree or equivalent and Registered as a pharmacist with the GPHC Management Training Leadership Training Post Graduate Qualification in clinical/MH Pharmacy Experience

Experience working in a management / leadership role within hospital pharmacy Business planning and financial management Management of risk with respect to the clinical use of drugs Record of achieving results against set targets Human resource management Quality improvement and audit Implementing patient safety initiatives Experience of policy and procedure writing Working at a clinical level in mental health services Working with mental health organisations Experience of budgetary management Knowledge

Current knowledge of mental health prescribing issues in primary & secondary care Knowledge of NHS commissioning processes Knowledge of clinical audit and quality improvement Knowledge applicable to management Knowledge of legislation relating to medicines management Critical appraisal of published research Qualities
