Lead/Principal Process Engineer We are recruiting on behalf of a client seeking a talented Lead/Principal Process Engineer to join their dynamic, multi-disciplinary team. The role focuses on delivering innovative energy projects within the Natural Resources Sector, spanning from concept studies to detailed design. As a senior technical leader, the successful candidate will be accountable for the process engineering aspects of projects, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring excellence in delivery. Location: Based in Aberdeen, with a requirement for in-office working at least two days per week. Flexible working arrangements are available, along with travel for site visits, design reviews, and client meetings within the Northwest region. Key Responsibilities: Lead process engineering input for projects and proposals, including preparing, reviewing, and approving deliverables. Manage discipline-specific staff, allocate work effectively, and ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Act as the primary process engineering representative in discussions with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. Develop high-quality technical outputs, including Process Flow Diagrams, Heat and Material Balances, and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Guide and support junior engineers, fostering skill development and providing constructive feedback. Work closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver seamless and integrated project solutions. Support technical safety activities such as HAZID and HAZOP, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Proven experience in process engineering design for chemical plants and energy projects. Comprehensive knowledge of UK legislation, industry standards, and best practices. Expertise in process deliverables such as PFDs, HMBs, P&IDs, and relief/blowdown calculations. Proficiency with process modelling tools such as UniSim, HYSYS, ASPEN Plus, or VMGsim. Leadership experience in managing teams and mentoring less experienced engineers. Experience in hydrogen facility design or energy transition projects. Knowledge of hydrogen-specific standards. Experience with technical safety assessments and commercial awareness. A degree in Chemical Engineering (minimum BSc; MSc preferred). 5–10 years’ experience within the energy industry, particularly in feasibility and pre-feasibility studies. Chartered Engineer status (MIChemE/FIChemE). Why Apply?
