Principal Research Scientist . This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in designing, building, and testing next-generation clean energy solutions. Role Overview The Principal Research Scientist will lead the research and development of cutting-edge fuel processing technologies. This position involves spearheading advancements in catalyst systems, gas impurity monitoring, and reactor design. Working within a talented team, you will drive innovation, ensuring the organisation remains at the forefront of sustainable energy technology. Key Responsibilities Lead the R&D team focused on fuel processing, including the development of catalyst technologies. Conduct research into gas impurity detection and monitoring systems. Design and implement rigorous testing programmes to evaluate catalyst and reactor performance, including long-term degradation and corrosion studies. Diagnose and resolve issues with catalyst performance through comprehensive failure mode investigations. Deliver accurate and precise data analysis to support informed decision-making by senior leadership. Mentor and review the work of colleagues, ensuring quality in test plans, risk assessments, and commissioning documentation. Uphold safety standards in laboratory systems, adhering to relevant codes and regulations. Innovate and develop novel concepts with strong intellectual property (IP) potential. Provide technical expertise on design, development, materials, prototype builds, and testing. Establish and refine best practices and processes within the team. Prepare detailed test proposals, plans, and technical reports. Generate and implement risk assessments for test rigs and development areas. Required Skills and Qualifications A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline, ideally with a 2:1 or higher, and significant industrial experience. Proven experience in a research and development environment. Strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of GC & MS. Practical, hands-on skills in testing, data analysis, and laboratory experimentation. Strong understanding of physical failure mechanisms and root cause analysis. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to senior stakeholders. Proven ability to manage tasks independently and meet project deadlines.
