Purpose of Role: The Principal Software Engineer leads a small team of engineers in the development, integration, introduction, sustaining and support of control system software and processes in the UK market. This includes capturing requirements, managing product and tool development, product introduction, and support. Key Responsibilities: Architect, design, implement and test railway signalling software solutions. Lead a development team in line with modern best practices and agile methodologies. Provide support to Control System delivery projects. Manage obsolescence of Control System software products. Proactively manage resources within the team. Conduct regular staff reviews and appraisals. Manage lab facilities for system validation and integration testing. Qualifications: Detailed knowledge of software development processes for safety-related systems. Understanding of Windows Operating Systems and API level programming. Experience in C, C++, C#, WPF, SQL, Entity Framework, PRISM, and Python. Understanding of UDP/IP, TCP/IP, and serial communication programming. Degree in engineering subject. Desirable: Knowledge of signalling interlocking systems. Experience with Motorola 68000 Assembler and Intel assembler. SQL Server DBA experience.
