Main Responsibilities

Deliver market leading packaging concepts, meeting customers’ requirements including digital and physical product mock-ups.

Pro-actively develop concepts for new and emerging markets, considering new materials and processes.

Coordinate creation of technical drawings internally, with customers and the involved suppliers.

Deliver cost saving and value add solutions, in line with customer briefs or requirements, that are optimized for efficient manufacture and to the required performance standard.

Manage the FMCG project portfolio and pipeline and all internal & external stakeholders.

Manage the briefing and internal management of new customer requests.

Brief technology & material providers.

Lead the entire product development projects stages, including technical risks management and project timelines.

Patent and protect Huhtamaki concepts developed for the FMCG product category.

Work closely with other Product Development Specialist and Managers to ensure knowledge and technology sharing across segments.

Organize and assist tests and production trials, and generate trial reports.

Provide technical support to customers to ensure optimization of packaging during production.

Provide all necessary information to the Quality team for the creation of specifications for all new products.

Working towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions to drive plastic reduction and support Huhtamaki 2030 sustainability goals.

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION – Product Design Specialist

EXPERIENCE

3 + years’ experience working within a packaging design function.

Experience of product development and design processes.

Understanding of manufacturing processes.

Ability to liaise with customers both internally and externally and manage expectations.

Experience of folded carton packaging design.

Understanding of Lithographic and Flexographic print applications.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS TRAINING

Relevant degree in the technical area. Engineering with specialties in packaging and / or food or 5 years+ relevant experience.

High level spoken and written English.

Continuous Improvement.

SKILLS AND SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE

Packaging design.

CAD software application / designs.

PC Literate.

Customer focus.

Experience with FMCG customers.

Knowledge of technologies, products, markets, clients, etc.

Project management experience.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

Flexible in terms of tasks undertaken.

Good communication skills.

Team player.

Capable of building and maintaining good working relationships.
