Developing ideas from concept through to manufacture by creating 3D CAD models (using Solid Edge 3D software). Creating and modifying technical drawings and product specifications, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) and product costings to enable manufacture. Selecting and sourcing appropriate third-party components to be used with designs. Ensuring newly developed products comply with customer specifications, regulatory standards and performance levels specified for safety, function and reliability. Developing a clear understanding of the relevant codes and standards through independent research. Working with the wider production team to investigate and address any design concerns and assist in the resolution of problems quickly and effectively. Aiding production in the development of jigs/fixtures to support the manufacture of newly designed products. Supporting sales through the creation of sales drawings, preliminary technical specifications, site visits and technical advice on the products/process development. Essential Criteria 5+ years’ experience working as a design or product development engineer within a relevant sector, including but not limited to the data centre industry, construction, transport or material handling sectors. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related field. High degree of proficiency with 3D modelling software and technical drawing for sheet metal design, Solid Edge + Tekla structures preferred. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to lead technical discussions and present ideas clearly. Desirable Experience of project management. Experience with new product introduction/product development. Working knowledge of the Machinery Directive, 2006/42/EC. Knowledge and understanding of the technical requirements for the execution of steel structures, BS EN 1090:2. Experience of Tekla Structures.
