ABOUT THE ROLE This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role within the Assessment team in the English Language Teaching division. The Product Development Lead is responsible for leading and collaborating on developing impactful, practical, customer-centric assessment solutions, grounded in best practice in language assessment, latest research in educational pedagogy and building on the opportunities latest technologies afford. The Product Development Lead ensures products are delivered to agreed market windows and within budget. You will work flexibly to research, plan, commission and manage these products through the product development lifecycle. Duties will include: Work collaboratively and cross functionally to carry out market research at the idea/explore/validate stages of product development to ensure products are clearly differentiated from the competition and meet customer requirements. Plan, conceptualize and specify products with a competitive edge that also maximize return on investment. Create product briefs and input into business cases as required. Understand and embed latest technological solutions to improve the assessment experience for test takers and teachers. Identify, brief and commission collaborators to ensure test and other assessment solutions are pedagogically effective and meet project schedules. Manage and motivate writers through the content development process. Evaluate materials and ensure solutions are developed to specifications. During the development process of assessment products or supporting materials, oversee, evaluate and approve the work of Assessment Managers, Assessment Support Managers and item writers to ensure that work is being delivered to an approved standard and meets the requirement of the Customer Value Proposition. In collaboration with the Assessment project manager, develop PIDs, product briefs and other relevant documents; oversee budgets and manage people resources as appropriate. Mentor colleagues and work closely with other senior colleagues to identify areas for development. Contribute to the delivery of training. Prepare and deliver presentations and training to internal and external audiences. Contribute to the effective implementation of new processes, workflows and systems and ensure that reviews, feedback and input to continuous improvement. We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office. ABOUT YOU Experience in researching and developing winning assessment solutions Experience in defining assessment content Knowledge and experience of product management, ideally within an educational context Experience in working with assessment experts and managing freelancers, incl. authors and editors Experience in working with cross-functional teams as well as vendors Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills Ability to speak and write English to a native-speaker level of fluency Understanding of educational assessment and requirements Knowledge of English language teaching and assessment is desirable Please note this is a part time position, working 0.6 FTE (full time equivalent) or 21 hours a week. We do not have a preference on how these hours are spread - whether full or partial days. BENEFITS We care about work/life balance here at OUP.
