Job Purpose The Production Chemist / Senior Production Chemist will support the operations team in efficiently executing critical manufacturing and development tasks to ensure high-quality, reproducible, high-throughput and safe chemical manufacturing. The Production Chemist’s main task is to create and maintain best-in-class laboratory spaces and work closely with the operations and chemistry teams to ensure their productivity and efficiency. While working within the laboratory the Production Chemist must be observant of safety standards and operating procedures. As an early-stage start-up employee, the Production Chemist will be exposed to and learn to operate a breadth of cutting-edge technologies over time. The ideal candidate will be a smart, enthusiastic, energetic, and ambitious individual excited to wear many hats and contribute to the overall success of the company in a variety of capacity as the needs evolve. Key Responsibilities Be a contributing member of the Operations team, working one of several shift patterns (early, late, nightshift, weekend) Set-up of automated chemical reactions (Curie, Lovelace and Arnold platforms) Carry out manual chemistry operations (e.g. workups and evaporations) Purification of crude product (Flash and Prep HPLC) Maintaining laboratory housekeeping (glassware, working areas) Maintaining laboratory equipment Take-on growing responsibilities during the transformation of the company from an R&D-stage organization to an operational powerhouse Communicating with laboratory management team to schedule maintenance tasks Preparation of stock solutions according to laboratory procedures Preparation of filter/drying cartridges according to laboratory procedures Decanting/weighing of raw materials and final compounds Working with engineering technicians to ensure cross-disciplinary tasks completed Taking the initiative to suggest improvements to working practices Accurate and timely documentation of completed tasks using our own digital laboratory notebook Qualifications and Experience Minimum Higher (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and a Science Subject. It would be advantageous for the candidate to have a Higher or Advanced Higher in Chemistry or an HNC/HND in a Science Subject with practical laboratory experience. The candidate should have previous work or study experience in a technical role within a laboratory environment Please note that this role requires applicants to already have the legal right to live and work in the UK Strong work ethic Good timekeeping Good numeracy and literacy Enthusiasm to learn new approaches and concepts and to work within a laboratory environment Problem-solving skills and ability to follow procedures Oral and written communication skills (English fluency) Experience handling chemicals Location This role will be based at the company’s new manufacturing site at OakBank Industrial Estate, Garscube Road, Glasgow, G20 7LU. It is anticipated that a period of initial training will take place at the company’s headquarters in the Advanced Research Centre, 11 Chapel Lane, Glasgow, G11 6EW. Timelines Closing date: Tuesday 14 th January 2025 Screening & interviews: January – February 2025 Training at Advanced Research Centre: February – March 2025 On-site at new manufacturing facility: March – April 2025+
