The successful candidate will lead in the specialist services division as the professional development advisor for maternity services and across the organisation in agreed professional development activity which includes mandatory and essential to role training, service activity, preceptorship programmes and clinical placements in line with Trust policies, procedures and national guidelines.

The role holder will have overall responsibility to facilitate new staff through preceptorship and induction programmes. They will provide access to education and assessment programmes to ensure the smooth transition of new staff.

Provides professional leadership advice and support, fostering a learning culture which values high-quality patient care.

We have three wards across two sites, with a total of 88 beds for antenatal, postnatal and induction of labour.

At Royal Derby Hospital there are:

17 delivery rooms including one pool room and bereavement suite.

Four bedded Midwife led birth centre.

Four bedded Obstetric Enhanced Care area and a two bedded assessment bay.

Queens Hospital Burton has seven delivery rooms including one pool room and one bereavement suite.

Samuel Johnson Community Hospital currently does not provide intrapartum care but runs as a community midwifery hub.

Main duties of the job:

Be an expert clinical practitioner, prioritising and planning workload. Act as an expert resource for the multi-professional team within Midwifery & Obstetrics and advise on both normal and complex midwifery care, ensuring midwifery practice is based on research evidence. Participate and lead on training and education in line with the maternity MIS and Core Competency Framework. Lead midwifery practice development initiatives in the division and business unit to ensure practice meets National standards as required and creates a culture of best care best value. Promote reflective practice and a culture of lifelong learning across the division and within the specialist area. Lead in the development and advancement of evidence-based practice within maternity to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications:

Essential:

Registered Midwife Educated to Degree level or equivalent. Recognised teaching qualification, mentorship course or equivalent.

Desirable:

Postgraduate qualification in teaching.

Experience:

Essential:

Evidence of ongoing CPD experience and knowledge.

Desirable:

Current experience and specialist knowledge of midwifery practice. Experience supporting and developing staff.
