Location: Keynsham
· ·
At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives.

This is a Fixed-Term Vacancy with a provisional end date of 01/02/2028.

About the Team

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking partnership in Bath & North East Somerset Council (B&NES) to support community action on home energy and renewables.

The BANES Community Energy Network is a three-year project enabled by the National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund. It is a partnership between Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bath and West Community Energy, the BANES Community Wellbeing Hub, and the University of Bath. The project will deliver two main activities:

Working with six communities within BANES to explore local renewable generation opportunities, with the ambition of delivering 5MW of new community-owned generation by 2030.

Developing a BANES local energy network to support learning and peer-to-peer support on home energy, including recruitment and training of 50 volunteer Energy Advice Champions, and a programme of events and activities.

These activities will be underpinned by support from researchers at the University of Bath who will provide support with project design using the principles of Community Based Social Marketing; and will also evaluate the programme to ensure we are delivering on the outcomes we want to see.

The Centre for Sustainable Energy will provide technical support for both activities as experts in energy and retrofit.

About the Role

The role of the Project Officer will be to lead on delivery of a series of community workshops focused on local energy generation; support with other Network events and activities in collaboration with Bath and West Community Energy; and to coordinate project communications and develop the project’s branding and identity, working with the comms functions of each partner in line with the organisation’s corporate priorities.

About You

The ideal candidate will have strong communications skills and have experience developing content across a range of platforms. They will be able to demonstrate the ability to organise public events, working with a range of stakeholders and managing their own workload efficiently.

Responsibilities will include:

Working with partners to develop the branding and “voice” of the BANES Community Energy Network, including web content and social media, working with the comms departments of each of the partner organisations.

Managing the development of a Community Energy Network microsite.

Delivery of a series of workshops with up to 6 communities in BANES, focused on the development of locally owned renewable energy generation.

Supporting the Project Manager to represent the project to internal and external stakeholders.

Support further events and activities of the Network as required.
