Job Description: Due to continued growth within a number of our business areas, we have a requirement for additional Project Engineering Managers within the Integrated Sensing and Protection (ISP) Line of Business (LoB) within Leonardo Electronics UK. Within this LoB, the projects are diverse and exciting, covering various stages of their lifecycle from new core product development to customer-funded projects and in-service support contracts. Project Engineering Managers are responsible for the total engineering activity undertaken on projects and manage a cross-disciplined engineering team, as well as Project Engineering Leads supervising projects or sub-sections of larger projects. They ensure that the engineering team delivers solutions compliant with customer, contractual, and legislative requirements. The Project Engineering Manager must effectively plan and manage the engineering effort within any projects they supervise directly from a performance, schedule, and cost perspective. Reporting to the Head of Engineering Project, the Project Engineering Manager contributes to the monthly engineering governance cycle through preparation of engineering status reports. They build strong relationships with Engineering Functional Leads to ensure realistic resourcing plans and swift resolution of any arising issues. Additionally, Project Engineering Managers play a vital role in business winning activities, coordinating the collection of engineering costs, preparing engineering plans, and conducting engineering bid reviews. The role requires a self-motivated and enthusiastic candidate with strong leadership and behavioral skills. The ability to foster and develop effective working relationships is key to ensuring engineers perform to the required levels. A strong commercial and business awareness is essential to manage the engineering effort in the correct context for each project. Key Responsibility Areas Management of multi-disciplined engineering teams across multiple projects, ensuring delivery of overall engineering output against time, cost, and performance budgets. Generating clear and relevant engineering plans, establishing key milestones, and identifying risks, opportunities, and interdependencies. Reviewing current engineering positions on projects and adapting plans as required to mitigate risks to cost, schedule, or performance budgets. Supporting and supervising subordinate Project Engineering Leads to ensure appropriate project management. Preparation and communication of monthly engineering status reports for assigned projects and those of subordinates to the Head of Engineering Projects. Coordination of engineering input into bids as part of the business winning process. Representation of engineering in multi-functional management teams at weekly and monthly progress and reporting meetings. Attendance at regular monthly Board level Project reviews to report on status and progress. Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required The following skills and experience are required: Educated to a degree level in an engineering-related subject (essential). Significant experience managing and/or leading multi-disciplined engineering teams on large scale development projects (essential). Strong understanding and proven track record of engineering lifecycles and processes on technically complex development projects (essential). Previous experience as a leader of leaders (desirable). A strong understanding and experience of systems integration and testing (desirable). Experience collaborating with external partners for development (sharing of models, code, etc.) would be advantageous (desirable). Knowledge and experience of Communications, Electronic Warfare, and/or CEMA technology (desirable). Experience working within the defence or aerospace industry (desirable). Intrinsic Factors The candidate must have demonstrable relevant experience and proven success in their previous roles, with well-rounded engineering experience in all phases of the design lifecycle and significant exposure to all aspects of engineering planning.
