The Prototype Technician role will work onsite, Monday to Friday, supporting product research and development activities within the engineering department. You will work closely with the NPI and R&D teams to translate engineering drawings into prototypes for subsequent testing and analysis, including both functional and destructive testing. The Prototype Technician will use their engineering skill base to weld and assemble products and develop solutions for testing, such as jigs and testing rigs. Alongside this, you will play a direct role in maintaining the upkeep of the Engineering Workshop onsite, ensuring that tools are correctly cleaned and stored, alongside maintaining the correct levels and availability of consumables used in the workshop. The Prototype Engineer will ideally possess proven experience in welding (MIG/TIG) and CNC turning for one-off testing/jig manufacturing. In addition to this, you will be conversant with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, demonstrating previous experience in making the product from the original drawing onwards and evaluating it. A recognised engineering qualification is highly welcomed for the role, in addition to proven experience in an engineering workshop environment. Previous experience testing production functionality and destructively testing products is required for the role, in addition to experience working with a range of materials including metals, wood, and plastic for products.
