Public Transport Data and Infrastructure Officer

Location: Aylesbury About us

Our team sits within the Communities Directorate as part of Transport Services. We are a small but dedicated team with, among other responsibilities, the production of high quality and comprehensive information relating to bus services. We are required to react to changes to timetables on the commercial bus network. The wider team also manages bus contracts, bus pass issuing and roadworks impacting bus services and as a team we assist across all disciplines during busy periods or periods of absence. As a team with a specialist focus, we strive to ensure the best outcomes for residents and are often in contact with the public over matters which concern the operation of the bus network. Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally. About the role

The main responsibilities of the role are to manage the flow of data from operators regarding bus service timetable changes, checking, inputting and exporting that information into national databases, internal systems and onto roadside information. You will also assist in the preparation of information for the Buckinghamshire Council website. In addition, the role will have responsibility for managing the NAPTAN bus stop database, ensuring that this is maintained accurately and exported regularly to the national database. With support from the Lead Officer and Head of Service, the post holder will also be the day-to-day contact for our contract providers, in particular, Vix for the Real Time Passenger Information displays and Trapeze for the Bus Stop Database. This will include monitoring the passenger transport mailbox alongside colleagues and ensuring faults with this system are reported and followed up and that new orders are delivered. The successful candidate will receive training on the relevant software packages and will be getting involved in checking and importing data ready for the production of information. Support, progression, and development is available. This is a unique opportunity for either someone with a solid background in database management, project work or experience of working within the bus industry who has the skills to learn the specialist systems and processes we use. Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements. About you

We are looking for a candidate either with a background in the operation or promotion of public transport services or otherwise with experience of managing databases and processes who can put these skills to use in the public transport sector. The role is reactive to changes submitted by commercial operators and often requires periods of higher workload. You will have a keen attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines. You will be able to plan and manage your own workload and be able to prioritise this accordingly with the input of management in the team. Other information
