Purpose of the Role
To provide a high-quality service to clients in designated section and to contribute to the development of the practice under minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Prepare client accounts and tax returns based on information supplied by client, advise on tax payable and payment dates and to meet deadlines, finalise paperwork for dispatch to client and H M Revenue & Customs.
Liaise with clients to obtain relevant information for their accounts, acting in a proactive way and ensuring attention to details and effective questioning of client.
Work with Managers to develop knowledge of clients and their businesses to become their point of contact on day-to-day matters.
Assist the Partners and Managers with tax planning for existing and potential clients, adding value to our clients’ businesses and individual wealth.
Support Partners and Managers with specific assignments, e.g., business planning, advisory, and tax matters.
Identify business and personal tax planning opportunities, drawing to attention of partners/client as appropriate. Prepare necessary reports/computations, liaising with other professional advisers as required.
Monitor own job quality and quantity in line with agreed budgets, meeting these targets and exceeding where possible.
Record own chargeable time and ensure maximum recovery.
Support trainees by providing on-the-job coaching.
Attend courses appropriate to job role.
Use appropriate support networks to clarify knowledge on complex queries such as CCH or software vendors.
Perform bookkeeping, ledger maintenance, supplier maintenance, and management accounts as required.
Prepare client tax returns based on information supplied by the client, advise on tax payable and payment dates, and meet deadlines in line with the firm’s standards.
Assist clients with accounts software and other bookkeeping queries as required.
Involvement in client seminars including attendance and setup where required.
Assist the Partner and Manager in taking responsibility for the proactive promotion of the Firm in conjunction with the marketing department.
Generate and refer leads to Ellacotts Wealth Planning Limited.
Critical Skills Required:
Ability to complete accounts files accurately and efficiently.
Ability to complete personal tax returns accurately and efficiently.
Excellent problem resolution skills and idea generation ability.
Critical Knowledge Required:
In-depth accounts preparation knowledge.
Knowledge of accounting systems including CCH, Xero, Sage Line 50, Farmplan, and other software as required. Knowledge of their uses and benefits.
Qualifications Required:
Essential: ACA or ACCA qualified.
Desirable: Degree or equivalent experience.
Experience Required:
Essential: Minimum of 2 years proven accounts experience within a practice environment.
Desirable: Experience with cloud accounting software such as Xero. Rural business services experience.
