Part Time Closing Date:

Thursday 16 January 2025 Applicants are expected to include a CV and covering letter. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in the University of Hull workplace. These include people from global majority backgrounds; people who have a declared disability; LGBTQI+ people; and women particularly for our Grade 9 and 10 roles. Role Overview: This is an excellent opportunity for a qualitative researcher to develop their expertise in understanding surgical trial recruitment. The postholder will work on the LaCeS 2 trial, a multi-centre, randomized controlled trial of laparoscopic versus open colorectal surgery in the emergency setting. The LaCeS 2 trial was funded by the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment programme. Recruiting in this setting is complex, and despite evidence from our earlier feasibility study to suggest the trial was feasible, this follow-on trial has failed to recruit as well as expected and has closed to recruitment. Despite LaCeS 2's premature closure, the research question continues to be of paramount importance within the surgical community, emphasizing the need to understand the barriers to recruitment to help advance research in this field. We are looking for a suitably qualified researcher to examine the factors contributing to non-recruitment to the LaCeS 2 trial through qualitative research conducted with site staff during site closures. These insights will enhance our understanding and provide valuable guidance for the design and conduct of future studies. Responsibilities: Conduct interviews with site staff to identify factors contributing to non-recruitment to the LaCeS 2 trial. Work with the research lead Dr. Maureen Twiddy, Ms. Deena Harji, the Chief Investigator (based at University of Leeds), and Leeds Clinical Trials Research Unit. Responsible for data collection, analysis, and write-up. To discuss this role informally, please contact Dr. Maureen Twiddy (email: maureen.twiddy@hyms.ac.uk, T: 01482 463279). Applications for this post can be made by completing a short online personal details form and uploading your CV and other relevant information, including a covering letter detailing how your skills and experience equip you to fulfil the specific duties and responsibilities of the post. We welcome applications from candidates interested in working flexibly and working from home. Please note that we are unable to respond to enquiries, accept CVs or applications from Recruitment Agencies.
