Outline of the role As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for monitoring the control of costs, maximising revenue, minimising liabilities, and maintaining the required standard of financial recording on a variety of projects. Provide commercial support to the delivery teams with the design and construction of the projects in line with time, cost, quality, carbon, HSE, and custom. Project outline Farrans have been awarded two large contracts with Northumbrian Water in County Durham and Tees Valley, working to deliver improvement works which will provide resilient supply of clean and clear water to its customers for decades to come. We will be improving the underground network of water pipes, installing 34km of new pipes, 800mm in diameter, between Lartington Water Treatment Works and Shildon via Whorley Hill. We’re taking the pipeline across the River Tees at two locations. At Cotherstone, we’re constructing a tunnel that will run 20m under the river bed and, at Alwent Beck, we’re building a pipe bridge. As a Quantity Surveyor, your duties will include: Achieving the appropriate commercial result for projects through the provision of accurate financial reporting. Building and maintaining working relationships with the supply chain and clients. Managing subcontractor supplier accounts, financially and contractually. Monitoring subcontractors against the programme. Negotiating final accounts. Placing supply chain orders in accordance with the procurement schedule. Completing measurements and valuations of work executed, ensuring that they meet the conditions of the contract. Ensuring payments to Sub Contractors and Suppliers are made to the terms and work in progress cash targets. Ensuring that Farrans Construction is compliant with all contractual requirements. Providing analysis of cost over-run and cost projections. Exploring opportunities to maximise value and minimise cost. Liaising with clients on commercial issues, including agreement of variations, claims, and additional payments. Identifying legitimate contractual claim situations and preparing suitable documentation to clients. Striving for continuous improvement within the commercial process and your area of responsibility. Abiding by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policy. Required Skills and Experience: Prior pre and post contract experience in a construction QS role working on major projects. Strong understanding of modern building techniques, plant and equipment, and an appreciation of logistical needs/issues. Strong understanding of construction contract conditions. Appreciation of the impact of cost in the completion of a programme and development of construction solutions. Educated to degree level in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management or equivalent qualification. Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and database software. What we can offer you: Our employees are at the core of everything we do.
