Position Overview:
CRG are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Quantity Surveyor to join our client's team in London. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the cost control for various projects, including the preparation of tender documents, cost estimates, and the procurement of materials. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to ensure that projects are completed within the agreed budget and that financial performance is maximised.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Tendering: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for projects. Evaluate and analyse tender documents to ensure compliance with client requirements and specifications. Work with the project team to provide clear and precise cost forecasts. Cost Control & Financial Management: Monitor project costs and ensure they remain within budget by reviewing project progress and tracking costs on an ongoing basis. Prepare and submit cost reports to clients, including financial forecasts and potential cost savings. Prepare interim valuations and manage payments to subcontractors and suppliers. Assess and evaluate variations, claims, and potential changes in project scope, with approval from the client. Procurement & Contract Management: Manage the procurement process for materials, subcontracts, and suppliers, ensuring value for money and timely delivery. Assist in the negotiation of contracts with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients. Ensure all contractual obligations are met in a timely manner and that any issues or disputes are handled effectively. Site Support & Collaboration: Attend regular site meetings and collaborate with the site team, ensuring cost-related concerns are addressed promptly. Review site progress reports and ensure work is being carried out in accordance with contractual and budgetary requirements. Provide advice on cost-effective alternatives and solutions to the project team to optimise project delivery. Risk & Value Management: Identify potential risks and opportunities, proactively implementing strategies to mitigate risks and optimise costs. Assist in the preparation of project budgets and cost plans, ensuring effective cash flow management. Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of costs, contracts, and other relevant documentation. Prepare final accounts, ensuring all financial aspects of the project are concluded accurately and in a timely manner. Skills & Experience Required:
Education: A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). MRICS or Chartered Status is desirable but not essential. Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally with experience in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering projects. Proven experience in managing costs for large-scale construction or engineering projects. Experience in both pre-contract and post-contract phases. Strong knowledge of contract administration, including NEC, JCT, or other industry-standard contracts. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CostX (or similar quantity surveying software). Strong knowledge of AutoCAD (desirable but not essential). Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Personal Attributes: Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to managing challenges. A detail-oriented, organised individual who can work independently or as part of a team.
