Reporting directly to the Technical Director, the IMSA Race Engineer plays a key leadership role in driving our car’s peak performance throughout the championship. Youll be at the heart of the action, collaborating across all areas of the team to ensure every detail is optimized for success on track. This is a senior position within the engineering team, offering you the chance to lead, innovate, and make a powerful impact on race day and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate with engineering and manufacturer to develop a car build and test plan for each event.
- Work directly with manufacturer to achieve goals
- Design, run, analyze and document simulations that will optimize car performance.
- Design, run, analyze and document on-track tests for full optimization of car.
- Preparation of event run plan, test item list and work list for each event.
- Race strategy considerations and implementation.
- Ensure all technicians are informed of car build and run plan in a timely manner to accomplish the teams goals.
- Coordinate with mechanics to ensure the car is within desired parameters and communicate changes in a timely manner to maximize track time.
- Coordinate with chief mechanic to ensure car is always in full technical compliance.
- Efficient management of support engineering staff for responsible car (Performance Engineer, Systems Engineer, etc.) at each event.
- Management of tires and tire preparation for each event. Including full understanding of tire degradation and its effects on evaluating car changes and race strategy.
- Responsible for analyzing data alongside various inputs from the supporting engineers and driver, to quickly decide on the vehicle optimization direction.
- Providing direct feedback to drivers for improvement.
- Maintain a run log of all changes that occur with the car along with driver feedback and lap time.
- Provide an environment for engineering staff to learn and improve in a mentorship capacity.
- Management and execution of long-term development items and engineering tasks.
- Work with team mechanics as required, completing all tasks (loading, car work, etc.).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule at the shop and travel to all race and test events.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree or higher required
- Minimum 3 years of race engineering experience in high level motorsport i.e., IMSA GTP, WEC Hypercar, FE, F1,
- Understanding of Vehicle Dynamics and Vehicle Performance subjects.
- Proficient with modern data analysis tools, i.e., simulations, analyzing WT data, CFD data and Track data
- Working knowledge of at least one high-level programming language such as Visual Basic, MATLAB, Python, C/C++
- Must be able to work with little supervision, must be self-motivated and able to drive projects forward.
- Attention to detail, organized, and able to multi-task in fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated and able to handle pressure to deliver under tight time constraints.
