To provide the knowledge, expertise and guidance in Reactor Physics and/or Radiation Physics and Shielding, in support of the full product life cycle. Performs analyses to quantify source terms, irradiation doses and relative damage to structures, systems, components, operators and public.
Key Accountabilities
To resolve problems through evaluative judgements and through application and understanding of complex methods and codes. Analyse factual information from multiple sources, interpret results and identify effective solutions by applying their own technical knowledge, expertise and engineering judgement. Is responsible for defined technical packages of work providing leadership and delivery against customer programme milestones with agreed costs, timescales and quality requirements. To provide point of contact within Nuclear Engineering and to share knowledge across those working in the topic area. This may include providing advisory services to designated customers, influencing their peer group, representing senior departmental staff and acting as advisor/coach on matters where they are technically authoritative. To develop and maintain knowledge of legislation related to nuclear material and ionising radiation such as the Ionising Radiation Regulations, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs) and Naval Reactor Plant Authorisee (NRPA) requirements. To understand the company business objectives and ensure that the work they do supports this. To act in accordance with both the company values and those associated with being a professional engineer. To actively encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement both within and outside their immediate sphere and prompt action across the wider team. To maintain and develop an external network to deliver relevant technology and maintain awareness of competitive position and emerging technologies.
Key Experiences and any Qualifications BSc, Masters or PhD in a relevant physics or nuclear engineering discipline. Direct technical experience relevant to the physics/engineering discipline. An ability to apply logical/analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems. Membership in the relevant professional body and either working towards or attained chartered status.
