About the Role: The role will involve the management and delivery of the radioactive waste process design for newcleo’s lead-cooled fast reactor projects. What You’ll be Doing: Lead the development of packaging and disposal solutions for all radioactive waste, including:
Definition of nature and quantities of radioactive waste Identification of viable disposal routes Optioneering of disposal packages Demonstration that waste/wasteform complies with container requirements, storage requirements, transport requirements and disposal requirements Definition of research and development requirements
Determination of appropriate radioactive waste generation, treatment, measurement, assessment and disposal options and solutions taking into account industry best practice. Accountable to the Radioactive Waste Discipline Lead for the technical coordination between different disciplines involved in the project and compliance with the task/project objectives. Coordinates the technical activities related to the task/project in order to achieve the technical project objectives in the most effective and efficient manner. Specifies the technical plans and operating budgets, as well as all subsequent amendments and variations. Identification of the logic and priority for the delivery of the technical documents, tasks, discipline / External Entities interactions, key milestones and delivery targets. Coordination of Supply and/or control of the inputs for each design phase. Manage the internal technical interfaces and implement the technical solutions agreed upon with the Heads of the involved Units. Progress close-out of all actions, from technical meetings, project meetings, concessions, technical queries etc. to achieve compliant contract completion. Key stakeholder technical contact and communication interface. Applying the company procedure of Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety System and Organizational Model. Your Skills and Experience: Please note, if you meet some but not all of the points below, we are still keen to hear from you! Experience of developing and leading strategies for waste characterisation, design and operation of waste retrieval, processing, packaging, waste storage and spent fuel facilities. Chartered or working towards Chartered status with a professional engineering, or equivalent, body. Experience interfacing with nuclear regulators. Experience in writing and presenting environmental related technical documentation. Experience in nuclear power development projects. Broad technical knowledge relating to radioactive and conventional waste management, optimisation techniques and regulatory expectations. (For a UK based role) Right to work full time in the UK & can achieve a national security clearance equivalent to a BPSS standard, or higher, within a reasonable period.
