AWE is currently recruiting for a Radiological Waste Specialist. As part of AWE Waste Services Group, you will manage the review, sentencing, recording, and consignment of Radioactive Solid and Non-aqueous Waste on behalf of the company. Key aspects are to liaise with internal and external stakeholders to demonstrate compliance with third party Waste Acceptance Criteria and to coordinate resources and governance bodies to realise the export of RA Waste whilst ensuring AWE remains within its Permits and Authorisations. You will be responsible for identifying and assessing any assay necessary to be undertaken to support RA waste sentencing as well as identifying waste suitability for external consignment via existing routes under an established framework contract, supporting the RA Waste Operations Manager in optimising waste management services in line with regulatory and business requirements. Who are we looking for?

We do need you to have the following: Working knowledge of hazardous waste operations. Experience utilising a database to interpret and manipulate information. Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following: Experience of working with nuclear waste would be beneficial but is not essential. Experience of collating and presenting information in structured reports. A good understanding of applying rigorous safety and quality cultures to practical demands. An awareness of health and safety, and good working practice. You’ll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines. Some reasons we think you’ll love it here:

9-day working fortnight – meaning you get every other Friday off work, in addition to 270 hours of annual leave. Market leading contributory pension scheme

(we will pay between 9% and 13% of your pensionable pay depending on your contributions). Family friendly policies:
