Vacancy First Advertised: Friday 16th August 2024 P+S Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our client, who is currently seeking a R&D Manager to join their team based in Great Yarmouth on a full-time, permanent basis. Role Summary: This role is pivotal in driving product-oriented initiatives, focusing on both the enhancement of existing products and the development of new, innovative solutions. The R&D Manager will be responsible for the initiation, planning, execution and successful completion of new product development projects – in accordance with the NPD stage gate process; on time; to specification; to product cost; within planned budget. Main Responsibilities: Oversee the development process of new in-house products from ideation to launch within the stage gate process. Innovate and conceptualise new product designs to maintain competitiveness in the market. Lead efforts in enhancing the performance and features of existing products. Managing a team of R&D Electronic Development, and Software Engineers, which includes setting and monitoring objectives, annual reviews and ensuring day to day people management tasks are completed. Ensuring the team are fully motivated, committed and are a high performing, reliable team. Responsible for department recruitment, training and other line management responsibilities. Responsible for handover of all deliverables to successfully launch new products, including design verification, bills of materials, manufacture build & test procedures and staff training. A positive ambassador of the company’s values. Interfacing and working closely with other managers and senior management. Project management of new product developments including labour resource, time and material budgets. Education and Experience: Degree level qualifications or equivalent in: Engineering BEng / Meng (Electrical & Electronics Engineering preferred), or Physics/Maths BSc/MSc. Must have practical experience with electronic assemblies, firmware & software. Experience of complex project management. Track record with staff supervision, management & mentoring. 5+ years’ experience in relevant engineering development role. Experience within marine / survey industry preferred. Person Specification: The ideal candidate will be results-oriented, a practical doer with a strong emphasis on product improvement and new product design. Critical problem-solving mentality. High attention to detail & quality. Clear and concise technical communications both written and verbal. Ability to train & mentor new staff. Drive & the ability to complete complex tasks to high quality within deadlines. Desire to adopt and implement new technologies. Constructive / creative mindset.
