Sandwich Medical Practice is looking to recruit a full-time Receptionist / Administrator to join our friendly practice. This post is to cover maternity leave, with a view to a permanent position. Main Duties of the Job

The role is varied and challenging, and the candidate must be able to adapt to the demands of a busy practice. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team. Experience of working in a healthcare setting would be preferable, although training will be given to the right candidate. The applicant must be proficient in the use of computer systems. About Us

We are a semi-rural practice based in Sandwich with modern purpose-built premises. We have two partners who are supported by sessional GPs and other healthcare professionals, together with a friendly team of administrative and reception staff. We offer five weeks holiday per year and the NHS pensions scheme. Job Responsibilities

The role is varied and will involve reception and administrative duties. The Receptionist will act as the first point of contact for patients visiting the surgery, and on the telephone. As a sound professional working relationship will be required with the GPs and staff working within the Practice, this post also requires liaison with individuals from outside agencies, and an excellent telephone manner is necessary to project the professional image of the Practice. A pleasant disposition and approachable manner are key attributes, together with sound communicative and interpersonal skills. The post requires the ability to exercise tact and discretion and to use initiative. Good organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team. Previous experience as a GP practice receptionist or in the medical environment is preferred, although applicants with other reception experience will be considered, as training will be given. The successful applicant will provide flexibility in the range of tasks they are asked to perform and will be able to prioritize their work and meet deadlines. It is essential that the applicant has good keyboard skills and some knowledge of Windows-based programs. The Receptionist will be prepared to help provide additional cover during holidays and sickness. Confidentiality

Main Functions: To project the professional image of the practice, acting as the first point of contact for patients. To work as part of a team by identifying pressures, sharing the workload, and supporting each other. To assist patients by signposting to the most appropriate clinician and service, and booking appointments. To deal with patient queries sensitively, ensuring that they are responded to quickly and effectively. To assist patients with registration and promote the use of online services. To take in samples and specimens for collection. To ensure reception and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy at all times. To be confident and competent in the use of the clinical software (EMIS Web) and other associated programs, after relevant training. To collect private and professional fees as necessary (health insurance reports, medicals, complementary therapy clinics). To deal with Tasks, Alerts, and template letters. To be part of the prescribing team, dealing with queries from patients online and on the telephone, and participating in the repeat prescription process. To complete laboratory forms on behalf of the doctor, as requested. To keep up-to-date with the Policies and Procedures of the Practice, as contained in the Staff Handbook. Person Specification

Qualifications

Ability to work under pressure. Knowledge of EMIS Web clinical system. Experience

Experience in using computer systems. Working on reception and as part of a team. Experience working as a Prescribing Clerk. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
