Job Opportunity: Spiritual Care Service

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. This is an exciting opportunity to join our spiritual care service in the largest health board in NHS Scotland. We are looking for someone to join our team of professionally registered chaplains, who is a flexible team-player, with or working towards their PG Cert in Healthcare Chaplaincy in spiritual care to fill a current part-time vacancy in mental health with the need to provide similar support in acute settings when on call by offering person-centred, spiritual care and bereavement support for patients, carers, staff, students and volunteers across all NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sites. The post will focus on providing a high standard of spiritual care, bereavement support and staff and student support in mainly mental health hospital sites. When on-call, every chaplain is expected to respond to all hospital site needs across NHSGGC serving a variety of multi-faith communities depending on the site. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and respond to the growing spiritual care and bereavement needs of service users, alongside their chaplaincy colleagues across our health board. A high degree of professional integrity and adherence to the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy’s Code of Conduct and guidelines is expected to ensure the current and future development of the spiritual care service beyond the 21st C in NHSGGC. You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (e.g., theological or religious studies or equivalent). A post-grad specialist training qualification in health care and chaplaincy/spiritual care will be an advantage. You will have a good contemporary knowledge and understanding of NHS Scotland guidelines and recent and ongoing developments in NHS Scotland Spiritual Care. You will either be already registered with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy or working towards registration. Should you wish to discuss the post in more detail, please contact Dawn Allan, Spiritual Care Team Lead, on 07814 313249. The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. More information on this scheme can be found at
