Children's palliative care involves delivering short respite breaks aimed at having fun and adding life to shortened years as well as end of life care and care after death. We are looking for individuals who will enjoy delivering high quality clinical and personal care alongside joining in activities, with high staff/children ratios allowing for you to make a real difference and make memories. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team including nurses, nursing associates, HCAs, activities coordinators and a child and family support team. You will work as part of a 24/7 rota with the choice to work short and long shifts.
We have a mixture of adult, learning disability and paediatric nurses working in the care team and value all the different skills that nurses bring. You do not need to have experience of working in palliative care or paediatrics as we offer a comprehensive development and preceptorship programme along with in-house training which can be delivered to support staff to achieve clinical skills and confidence.

Main duties of the job
In offering palliative care through the provision of respite breaks, and adding life to shortened years, you will provide high quality, holistic, family-centred and compassionate care whilst meeting the complex clinical needs of the children in our care. The hospice delivers end of life care to a small number of children, working with specialist teams providing training and advice to manage children's symptoms effectively. To deliver this you will: Provide clinical nursing assessment, robust care planning and evaluation of care. Participate in the training and development opportunities and frameworks provided by the education team. Use clinical judgment to manage the deteriorating patient, following care plans, escalation of care and the use of patient safety tools. Advocate for the child and young person and their families, supporting and promoting decisions, choices and best interests. Work as part of a team, providing support and supervision to students and junior members of staff. Ensure the holistic care of children and young people, by liaising with the wider support teams within the hospice. Working with support, provide end of life care to children or young people staying at the hospice. Provide assessment of children who are end of life ensuring symptoms are controlled, liaising with the specialist palliative care teams as required. About us
