Gate 24 - Plastic Surgery Dressings Clinic and Outpatients. The department is a small team of experienced nurses who work alongside Healthcare Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners as well as a wider multi-disciplinary team. The department not only runs Outpatient clinics for the Plastic Surgery team but also daily nurse-led dressings clinics to support the timely discharge and ongoing wound management of post op patients from the plastic surgery ward, 33A. You will gain experience of working in a fast-paced Outpatient Department. You will be supported by the wider nursing team to provide an excellent nurse led dressing clinic service for NBT Plastic Surgery patients, seeing an extensive range of simple and more complex wounds, using a variety of dressings. You will work with the wider team to jointly manage change to provide an excellent Outpatient service and patient experience. You will be closely working with the Plastic Surgeons, Nurse Specialists, Clinical Psychology, Physiotherapists (Trauma, Hand and Sarcoma), Burns team, Plastics Trauma, Gate 33a (Plastics and Burns), and Dermatology to provide high quality care for patients. This role is fixed term/ secondment, part time (20 hours per week). Main duties of the job
Working within a small team in an Outpatients setting. Running Plastic Surgery Outpatient Clinic with Doctors, Nurses and AHP's. Running nurse-led dressings clinics and working autonomously to see, treat and discharge patients, some with complex wounds. Co-ordinating the department when required. Continuously problem solving to ensure safe and high quality patient care. Person specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
Registered Nurse with Current NMC registration. Evidence of continuing professional development. Evidence of post grad study in a surgical speciality. Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to undertake. Work Experience
Expectation to undertake training for extended roles required by the ward / department, i.e., Cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, complex wound dressings, vacuum assisted closure. Currently working in a hospital setting as a qualified nurse or qualifying student. Experience of working in plastic surgery. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping. Ability to undertake shift work (flexible options available). Ability to work as part of a team. Sound knowledge of the guidelines set out in the NMC code of professional conduct and current Nursing Issues. Basic computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service i.e. EDMS, Careflow, Email use. Time management and basic problem solving skills. Sound knowledge of trust policy including manual handling, health and safety and infection control.
