About the Job:

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides: Nursing care to psychiatric patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team Enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence-based practice in nursing practice Maintains and advances own clinical competence Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned RPNs/RNs on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit work in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, SWs, OTs, psychology, as well as community mental health. The Inpatient Mental Health and Substance Use program assists in-patients with acute mental health challenges. We are an interdisciplinary team that places a high emphasis on wellness by teaching patients about nutrition, exercise, medications, therapy, relapse prevention, and other wellness strategies. We work together with the Community Mental Health and Substance Use programs to ease transition back to the community. We are looking for a self-directed, motivated, reliable, and flexible mental health-trained nurse (RN/RPN) who enjoys working in a team environment and has a strong desire to learn. If you are experienced in Mental Health or Substance Use, we want to hear from you! This is a Relief Full Time opportunity until September 13, 2024, or return of the incumbent. Shifts of work are days and nights 07:00 to 19:00, 10:00 to 18:00 and 19:00 to 07:00. About this location/unit:

The East Kootenay Regional Hospital Psychiatric department is a 10 bed inpatient unit that includes 2 seclusion rooms. We have recently completed a department renovation with a focus on staff and patient safety. We have a very skilled and seasoned team that includes a team leader, 2 RNs working 12 hours shifts 24/7 with a 3rd RN on weekends from 1000-1700, a unit clerk and 4 Psychiatrists. We provide group activities and implement the PIECES philosophy. Nestling on sloping plains, Cranbrook faces the Purcell Mountains to the west and the Rockies to the north and east.
