The Client The client has an acquired brain injury, and because of this he is physically and cognitively impaired and struggles with communication. The client requires support with activities of daily living, including personal care, assistance with transfers and accessing the community. He enjoys watching television and spending time with his Mum and Auntie. He previously worked at Halfords, loved mountain biking, and was a very active and hardworking young man. Job Description We are recruiting for a Male Rehabilitation Care Assistant to work with a 33-year-old man with an acquired brain injury. The role involves supporting the client with activities of daily living, accessing the community, delivery of personal care, and supporting the client at home to enjoy activities and pursue hobbies. Employees will work under the guidance of the case manager, staff manager, and the multi-disciplinary therapy team. The client’s mum will also provide support, input, and direction where needed. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a brain injury rehabilitation, care, or support setting, and they will be empathetic, supportive, and passionate about caring for others. Confidence, initiative, and excellent lone working skills are essential to this role. The client may at times display challenging behaviour when frustrated or upset, so employees should have experience working with individuals with complex needs. Candidates should be proficient in using Microsoft Office to record shift notes and able to confidently communicate with the management team via email or telephone to report anything of significance relating to the client. Job Specification Support the client with reaching his case management rehabilitation goals. Implement the client’s rehabilitation plan. Effectively support the client with challenging behaviour using appropriate techniques and strategies, as guided by the therapy team. Facilitate a balanced routine of activity and rest periods in accordance with therapists' advice. Identify and explore home-based leisure interests, facilitating access for the individual. Execute upper limb treatment/exercise programs under therapist guidance and supervision. Conduct thorough live risk assessments before, during, and after activities at home and in the community, adhering to therapists' and case management guidelines. Actively promote and support community access for the individual. Compensate for visual problems and ensure that activities are accessible. Implement therapist-guided strategies to promote concentration and attention during various activities. Watch and discuss the client’s preferred TV programmes. Promote social skills in alignment with speech therapy guidelines. Facilitate and support the individual's physiotherapy exercise program. Encourage and promote independence in self-care activities such as hand hygiene, hair care, dressing, and putting on socks and shoes. Promote and support involvement in meal preparation following therapist guidelines. Willingness to engage in multidisciplinary training and attend monthly supervision sessions. Promote healthy food options and provide choices to the client. Implement fatigue management programs as advised by therapists. Support outdoor mobility and maintain safety according to therapist advice and guidelines. Assist in accessing wheelchair-accessible transport. Implement behaviour management programs based on therapist advice. Provide support for domestic duties, respecting client’s family preferences, e.g., changing bedding. Complete daily notes using the template provided by the case manager/therapists. Shifts 2 day shifts per week, 4 hours per day. Days and times are flexible and will be agreed with the right candidate. Candidate Specification Essential Clear DBS check A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a care or support setting Experience working with adults with additional needs Experience writing shift notes Ability to problem solve and work well under pressure 2 professional references Desirable Experience working with, and/or knowledge of acquired brain injury and the effects on individuals.
