Job Introduction

We require a high-performing business-facing practitioner to join our dynamic sustainable business team. You will work across industries and sectors to find creative solutions to otherwise wasted resources, supporting a low-carbon green economy across Northern Ireland.

Sustainable Business Practitioner

Contract Type:

Permanent – Full / Part Time / Job Share considered

Salary range:

£30,000 + benefits (pension, health care & life assurance)

Location:

Northern Ireland – Home based with travel across region (monthly meeting in Belfast)

Role:

Supporting businesses to adopt the circular economy / sustainable practices

We reach out to businesses who want to be more sustainable and lessen their environmental impact.

We help businesses:

Identify opportunities for reducing or re-purposing waste streams

With guidance toward best practice in the circular economy and sustainability

Purchase more sustainable products through the supply chain

Reduce operational costs and overheads

Understand jargon related to Carbon Footprinting and Net Zero targets

Find local businesses to utilise their resources or supply alternative raw materials

Report on Cost, Carbon Reduction, Landfill Diversion, ESG & Sustainability performance

Adopt a long-term sustainable business model to survive and thrive in this current climate

Main Responsibilities

Confidently meet with businesses face to face at their premises

Set up site visits with new business partners

Conduct site visits across NI businesses to advise and improve waste management

Provide business support on resource efficiency to turn wastes into valuable resources

Provide advisory & technical knowledge on compliance, and wider environmental impacts

Research and identify industrial symbiosis and circular economy solutions for NI businesses

Signpost to carbon reduction & sustainability services and initiatives

Use our software system to facilitate and report matches made

Use MS Excel to record, report and track monthly and annual targets

Attend weekly online meetings and monthly in-person meetings in Belfast office

Identify and maintain trusted and open business relationships

Attend and facilitate quarterly workshops and issue reports in a timely manner

Deliver presentations & attend exhibitions to cultivate new businesses and represent our work

Self-manage project work, pipeline, and progress against agreed outcomes

Competently use SharePoint & MS applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word & email

The Ideal Candidate will:

Have experience of business engagement, support, or customer relations

Hold relevant sales, business, engineering, energy, or environmental skills & experience

Ideally hold a third level academic qualification (or relevant job role experience)

Build knowledge of the circular economy, waste policy and legislation where lacking

Be creative in identifying possibilities for materials useful to another organisation

Identify entrepreneurs, start-ups, social enterprises’ resource wants and haves

Stimulate and support business to innovate and try new markets or alternative materials

Identify opportunities for onsite reuse (recovery, repair and restore) where practical

Have a passion for helping businesses reduce carbon and costs

Be friendly and approachable and be a good networker

Have access to transport to visit organisations as and when needed

Be well-versed in environmental issues and willing to act as company ambassadors

Be willing to undergo training and development and keep abreast of sustainability issues
