An opportunity has arisen to join the University of Lincoln's expanding soil research team as a Research Assistant as part of an exciting new Innovate UK project.

Agricultural and Environmental systems are facing unprecedented challenges in nutrient management. Over-application of synthetic fertilisers intensifies financial strain, damages aquatic ecosystems, and erodes soil health in farming systems. UK farmers urgently need solutions to reduce chemical fertilisers and replace them with sustainable biological alternatives.

The Innovate UK funded project, Nutrigrow, aims to utilise machine learning techniques alongside comprehensive soil sampling and analysis to enhance our understanding and uptake of biological alternatives to synthetic chemical fertilisers. Within this project, the University of Lincoln will be responsible for analysing soils across a range of farming trials co-ordinated by the project consortium.

You will be highly motivated to work in agricultural soil science to analyse a wide range of soil samples for key biological and physico-chemical parameters. This project is part of a consortium associated with several industrial partners, providing opportunities for the candidate to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.

We will have experience within: Laboratory analytical techniques of environmental samples (e.g. soil, plant) for biological, physical and chemical parameters; Organisational skills in receiving, processing, preparing and scheduling samples for analysis; Data Analysis, interpretation and presentation; Engagement with academic and industry partners.

Ideally you will have experience with a range of analytical techniques in environmental, agricultural or other natural sciences.

Please note that this post requires a Standard DBS check.
