Part-time (0.5 FTE, 18.5 hours per week); Fixed-term contract to 05/09/2025

  

The role involves working as part of a major collaborative project, examining predictors of resilience and frailty in older people, funded by the Wellcome LEAP Dynamic Resilience programme. The project brings in multidisciplinary expertise from biogerontology from the Wolfson School (PI Prof Alexandra Stolzing); chemistry and application of AI approaches with the school of science. This particular role, based in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences under the supervision of Prof Katherine Brooke-Wavell, will involve coordinating the clinical aspect of the project. You will be involved in participant recruitment, collection of samples, physiological assessments and collection and analysis of samples using a range of techniques, working alongside other staff and students.

 

Key Requirements:

  

  • You should have a degree in human biology, biomedical science, biological science, physiotherapy, sport and exercise science or related subject.
  • You will have a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant area and experience of working with human research participants is essential, as is experience in handling or analysing biological samples.
  • Experience with recruiting and measuring older people, breath sample collection and handling, phlebotomy, conducting and analysing scans by DXA or pQCT and frailty assessments is desirable.
  • Training and experience of compliance with Good Clinical Practice, Human Tissue Act and/or Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations would also be an advantage.

  

This part-time post is offered on a fixed-term contract from 6th January 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until 5 September 2025.
