Offer Description Applications are invited for a Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Dr Naiara Beraza in the Food, Microbiome, and Health programme at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

Background:

The Beraza Lab research focuses on investigating the mechanisms mediating the gut-microbiome-liver axis with a focus on host metabolic and immune functions. The successful candidate will be involved and contribute to different projects established in the Beraza lab focused on understanding food and gut-microbes-liver interactions.

The role:

The main purpose of the job is to provide support to the Beraza Lab research focused on defining the mechanisms underlying the influence of foods in the liver-gut-microbiome axis throughout life. The appointed post is expected to provide expertise and support in:

Design, undertake and supervise complex experimental in vivo work.

Design and perform in vitro work independently.

Competency in flow cytometry; experimental and analysis.

Competency in molecular biology techniques.

Data analysis, preparation and writing of research manuscripts.

Contribute to grant preparation and writing.

Training and supervision of students.

The candidate will also have access to training opportunities within the Norwich Research Park to develop their laboratory and analytical skills.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Biology, competency and experience in animal handling and in vivo experiments, and holds a Home Office Personal License or equivalent. The post holder will have proven competency on molecular and cell biology methodologies including nucleic acid and protein extraction and further analysis by PCR, qPCR, immunoblotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and microscopy. They will also have experience in the preparation of manuscripts and supervising students. Experience in high throughput techniques like single cell sequencing is highly desirable, as are excellent record keeping and time management skills.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £36,720 to £39,750 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post offered on a fixed term contract basis to 31 March 2028.
