Job Description Summary About the role: The Neuroscience Disease Area within Novartis’ Biomedical Research is a global research organization striving to develop impactful medicines for people living with severe neurological and neurogenetic diseases. Our team of world-class drug hunters and experts in mechanisms of Neurodegeneration, Neurodevelopment, Inflammation, and Neuromuscular disorders drives a portfolio that includes multiple indications and therapeutic approaches. Job Description Position Location: Cambridge, MA, onsite, no travel required We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in electrophysiology and Neurodegenerative/Neuromuscular disorders to join our collaborative team creating and delivering the next generation of transformative therapies to patients worldwide. The successful candidate will interact with cross-functional project teams and therefore teamwork and good communication skills are key. Your responsibilities: Collaborate with project teams to design an experimental strategy within the cellular electrophysiology domain. Hands-on execution of cellular and network electrophysiological studies in cell culture and/or in brain slices to better understand disease mechanisms or characterize molecules for potential therapeutic effects. Analyze, interpret, record and present data at intra- and inter-department meetings. Generate a broad understanding of projects and drug discovery pipeline to identify and address scientific/technical gaps. Mentor and train junior associates in areas of expertise. Adhere to strict animal welfare standards and maintain lab equipment and shared consumables. Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience or related discipline and a minimum of 7+ years of laboratory-based industrial or academic experience. Hands-on experience working with rodents and experience culturing cells. Expertise in vitro/ex vivo electrophysiology i.e. whole cell patch clamp, high throughput electrophysiology platforms, or extracellular field potential recordings. Experience with statistical analyses and how to apply these to biological data. Experience troubleshooting data anomalies to maintain high data quality. Familiarity with scientific/analytical software packages/platforms (e.g. Sophion Analyzer, IGOR Pro, Fiji, Graphpad, MATLAB, Python, R). Programming experience is a plus. Demonstrate efficient time management, focus on deliverables, and the ability to effectively prioritize when designing/undertaking experimental plans. Thrive in an interdisciplinary, team-oriented, and collaborative environment. Flexibility and willingness to occasionally adjust working hours as required by specific experiments. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in Neuroscience or related discipline.
