To support the inpatient and outpatient service in Paediatrics and Neonates at Warwick Hospital whilst on duty, the post holder has clinical and professional responsibility for their patients. It is also the duty of the post holder to: Keep patients (and/or their carers as appropriate) informed about their condition. Involve patients and/or their carers if appropriate in decision making about their treatment. Maintain professional standards and obligations as set out by the General Medical Council and comply in particular with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice'. The post holder will be responsible for carrying out any work related to and reasonably incidental to the duties set out in their Job Plan such as: The keeping of records and provision of reports. The proper delegation of tasks. Maintaining skills and knowledge. Main duties of the job Research, Education, Audit and Continuing Professional Development To take responsibility for continuing professional education in accordance with guidelines set out by the appropriate college/faculty/professional body. To initiate and participate in research and audit programmes in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. To work in collaboration with colleagues in developing skills to provide new ways of working across different professions, organisations i.e. community/primary care. Clinical Governance In conjunction with Consultant colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met. General elements To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care. To be able to work flexibly. To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development. To contribute to the research and development of the department. To provide cover for colleagues as appropriate and in accordance with local Trust arrangements and Trust Policy. To observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures. To take responsibility for your own health and safety complying with any safe working arrangements, policies and procedures which are in place. About us South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust provides acute and maternity services for the people of South Warwickshire and community services for the whole of Warwickshire, covering a population of 536,000. The Trust includes Warwick Hospital which is the main inpatient acute facility for South Warwickshire and community hospitals also based in the south of the county. The Trust is a CHKS top 40 hospital and consistently scores highly in the National Staff Survey. Warwick Hospital This site houses the majority of the Trust's acute services including Accident and Emergency services, Diagnostic and Pathology departments, Maternity and Special Care Baby Unit, Main and Day Surgery Theatres together with an Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit. The Paediatric Department is based in a purpose built, up to date and child friendly unit comprising of an 18 bed inpatient area and an outpatient area providing first class accommodation. The service has recently been expanded to include one high dependency bed and a 5 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit which is next to the ward and staffed 10am - 10pm. A Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit with 11 cots. Babies requiring intensive care are stabilised at Warwick Hospital and then transferred elsewhere, usually within the Paediatric Network. Our unit has facilities to ventilate sick neonates awaiting transfer. The Child Development Centre (separately staffed) is on a separate site.
