Completed 2-3 year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or another degree/diploma in human services, combined with relevant experience, that is deemed to be equivalent to the DSW requirement. Valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate CPR Level C Certificate and use it in practice on a regular basis. Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate upon hire and use it in practice on a regular basis. Valid driver’s license an asset, and clean driver’s abstract required. Ability to successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the agency. Experience and Knowledge:
Preferred minimum 2-5 years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities and preferably working with individuals who have a dual diagnosis of mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. Experience with writing, implementing, and updating Individual Support Planning. Strong counselling/de-escalation support skills required. Medication administration experience preferred. Skills and Capabilities:
Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening, completed no less than 2 months prior to date of hire. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
