Work as part of a team of Respiratory Nurse Specialists on a project to help optimise care of COPD patients who attend AUH. Provide specialist Respiratory input for patients with exacerbations of COPD in A&E and acute medical areas of AUH. Follow up patients on outlying wards and ensure COPD bundles are completed for patients with exacerbations prior to discharge including: Patient review / assessment of inhaler technique Provision of a written patient self-management action plan and (where appropriate) an emergency drug pack The offer of referral to smoking cessation Assessment of the suitability for pulmonary rehabilitation Appropriate follow-up arrangements Participate in clinical audit and project meetings. Collect and enter data onto NRAP system (with support). Contribute to teaching and clinical supervision. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an additional Respiratory Nurse Specialist to work within our team. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic nurse with a passion for caring for those with respiratory illness to work on a new project optimising the care of patients with Acute exacerbations of COPD who attend AUH. The recruited CNS will work with the current Respiratory CNS team but focus on seeing patients in the A&E and acute medical areas; ensuring their treatment is optimised and COPD bundles are delivered. The successful candidate will also collect data in line with the National Audit Programme and be part of project reviews. We work closely with medical and therapy teams both in hospital, and in primary care. We have close links with the Community Respiratory Team, ILD team, and other local Oxygen teams too, part of the role will be referral to these teams to ensure patients are well supported post discharge. A high level of clinical decision-making is required for this post, the post holder should expect to work independently; therefore, sound theoretical and practical knowledge in Respiratory is required. Evidence of post registration training and a willingness to learn and develop clinical skills is essential. The candidate should have at least 2 years' respiratory experience. You will need excellent communication skills and will be expected to provide education and advice to patients, carers, and health care professionals.
