An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to become part of the Lung Function service at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The position will be 37.5hrs per week permanent contract. We are looking for a highly motivated Respiratory Physiologist to provide high quality care to all of our patients at Wansbeck General Hospital, North Tyneside General Hospital, and outlying sites. You will need to have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to work around clinic times is essential. You must have a BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent). Other science degrees may also be considered, e.g., Sports and Exercise Physiology, Biology, etc. ARTP certification and RCCP or HCPC registration are desirable for this post. If the applicant does not have ARTP accreditation or significant relevant experience, training will be provided with the expectation of taking and passing this qualification. When accreditation is attained, we would expect the post holder to begin training in more advanced diagnostics to allow for progression to a Band 6 Highly Specialist Physiologist role. The main role will be performing a wide range of lung function and sleep diagnostic investigations. Support of consultant-led sleep clinics, including CPAP and mask fit problems, will also be required. Training will be provided where necessary. Competency will be assessed internally to provide reassurance of clinical performance as well as working towards ARTP accreditation. Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will need to have experience in or complete training to be competent in a wide range of diagnostic tests including spirometry, lung volumes, gas transfer, capillary blood gas performance and analysis, skin allergy tests, field exercise tests, MIP/MEPS/SNIP, exhaled and nasal nitric oxide. To be involved in sleep study set up, CPAP maintenance, and patient support. To offer support for all clinical needs, provide a service for specialties outside of respiratory medicine, and to be involved in research investigations.
