Retrieve is the South West’s dedicated Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCTS), operating 24/7/365 from two bases. The Band 8a Lead Nurse is responsible for service development, quality improvement, and operational delivery. This role requires close collaboration between the Lead Nurses in both operational bases. Retrieve Severn is looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual with a background in critical care for this one-year, fixed-term maternity cover contract. Main duties of the job

The Base Lead Nurse will: Lead and be a role model for the multi-professional team, ensuring high-quality clinical care. Develop and maintain evidence-based transfer protocols and guidelines. Provide specialised nursing care for critically ill adults requiring transfer. Oversee the Training and Education team for in-house education programs. Manage the service budget effectively. Monitor service effectiveness through audit and statistical data collection. Ensure reliable submission of operational, clinical, and performance data to national databases. Knowledge and Experience

Significant recent leadership experience in critical care. Demonstrated critical care experience. Evidence of postgraduate specialist training to Masters level or equivalent. Relevant experience with intra-hospital and inter-hospital transfer. Ability to lead and manage a team. Understanding of effective budgetary management. Understanding of clinical governance principles. Experience with audit in clinical practice. Role model for excellent patient care. Experience in change management and problem solving. Experience ensuring a safe environment. Portfolio of achievements in practice. Evidence of presentations at local and regional levels. Skills and Abilities

Attention to detail in document production. Ability to work in a demanding specialist environment. Strong organisational skills. Ability to influence colleagues and implement clinical changes. Excellent advanced critical care clinical skills. Ability to work across professional boundaries. Ability to implement audit data to improve quality. Ability to analyse and interpret complex situations. Competence in advanced technologies. Flexibility to meet changing service needs. Self-motivated and able to motivate others. Evidence of continued leadership development. Knowledge of national and local specialty-specific issues. Experience in research and audit. IM & T

Competent in Microsoft Office packages. Competent in videoconferencing using Microsoft Teams. Competent in using medical databases and search engines. Knowledge of Electronic Patient Record systems. Qualifications and Training

Degree or equivalent in nursing. Qualification in Teaching, Assessing, and mentoring. Evidence of Masters level study or willingness to pursue it. Completion of Step 1-3 competencies in critical care. You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
