Rotational Post for Elective Orthopaedics and Trauma Orthopaedics - Leicester General Hospital and Leicester Royal Infirmary

We have an exciting opportunity available to recruit to a yearly rotational post between Elective and Trauma orthopaedics. This is a permanent contract. Main duties of the job

In Elective Orthopaedics the case load is a combination of patients who have had joint replacement surgery, upper and lower limb surgery, spinal surgery, and some Trauma cases. The team provides a service to two wards, a pre-assessment clinic and day-case patients. The Elective service has implemented the Leicester Enhanced Arthroplasty Pathway (LEAP) to assist in reducing length of stay. In trauma there are three inpatient trauma wards including a spinal ward and a dedicated fractured neck of femur ward. Applicants must be able to manage a varied and complex clinical caseload, undertaking functional assessments and interventions to facilitate safe and effective discharge planning. You will demonstrate sound communication, sound prioritisation and organisational skills within a large multidisciplinary team. The Trauma team is based at the Leicester Royal Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic team player who will be actively involved in service improvement. Your personal development will be supported through appraisal, in-service training and regular clinical supervision with a senior colleague. Alongside the other Band 6 OT you will be required to support our rotational Band 5's, Technical Instructors and OT Assistant and to deputise for the Clinical Specialist OT to ensure the smooth running of the team. You will be required to work on our weekend roster, including bank holiday rosters. Job responsibilities

Occupational Therapy provides key therapeutic assessments and interventions to patients in order to promote independence and facilitate optimum function for individuals working with patients, families and carers and the multi-disciplinary team to achieve agreed outcomes for patients. To work with the Clinical Specialist OT to ensure the delivery of Occupational Therapy in the MSK Elective/Trauma Orthopaedic Team in an efficient and effective way. To increase and consolidate existing clinical knowledge in a specific clinical setting. To develop basic managerial and supervisory skills. To carry a clinical caseload and work to Service priorities. To work with patients, carers and their families in a sensitive and professional manner. To liaise with other professionals for the benefit of the patient. To work with those who may have complex needs including physical, psychological and communication difficulties. To liaise with colleagues/ and work across site if appropriate in order to ensure the provision of a seamless equitable service. You will have the opportunity and support to develop your supervisory and leadership skills, by supporting and supervising other staff members within the team. You will be expected to provide practice placements for Occupational Therapy students and assist in new starter inductions. There is also structured in-service training in place within the team, which you will be required to participate in. Person Specification
