National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Route Manager to join our team in the North West region. The Route Manager will contribute to the region's strategy development process, through effective use of intelligence and insight into customer, asset needs, social and economic demands, developing commercially viable forward programmes and solutions for the route(s) in scope, ensuring the support the delivery of the Region's goals. Please note that this is a hybrid position and can be based from any of our offices within the North West region however, regular travel to Warrington to attend team meetings will be required. What you'll be leading on

Identifying and assessing route and network needs and priorities (informed by insight into customer, economic, social and asset needs) to help us develop future asset and delivery plans. Supporting RIS 2 development with contributions to an evidence base for our route strategies and long-term programmes, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to validate proposals and ensure that planned works contribute to improving customer experience, safety and wellbeing and overall network performance in the region. Develop and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with customers and stakeholders and act as point of contact for network development needs and emerging schemes. Develop business cases and manage the prioritisation of investment works for the route(s) in scope in line with needs, agreed strategy, policies, budget, and efficiency targets. Initiating requests for studies, and oversee the development of solutions, ensuring new investment ideas are supported by robust business cases. To be successful

Degree in Civil Engineering or qualification of a similar discipline and/or experience. Understanding of the organisation's data and information systems and policies. Experience of developing business cases and asset management plans, including the management and development of budgets. Strong commercial and financial acumen. Asset management decision making (capital investment, lifecycle costs, value optimisation, service & availability optimisation, social & economic knowledge). Knowledge of sustainability principles and the application of sustainable development is desirable. A bit about us

We address over 39,000 customer enquiries every month, plan and deliver all maintenance activities on the network, drive efficiencies and improvements across our systems and roads, and respond to incidents across 4,500 miles of motorways and major A-roads that we manage. All to make sure National Highways customers have safer, smoother, and more reliable journeys. External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
